Those visiting Machu Picchu and are willing to make an extra hike should definitely pre-plan and book a ticket to climb Huayna Picchu (they limit daily visitors to 400). This is the peak that one often sees in the pictures of Machu Picchu, hence climbing it allows you to view Machu Picchu from the other end and from a higher elevation. The trail was built by the Incas and since then has been bettered by the tourism government. But please do not expect it to be easy, it is still a challenging trail for most and I advise you do not try it unless you are fit and willing to cope with a slippery and steep climb. Along the way, one can find caves, Incan ruins and terraces from the time Machu Picchu was built. If you are lucky you will have a clear day and have a good view of the ruins. If you are planning this hike, please remember to buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
