While cruising in the Antarctic waters, one can almost always spot whales swimming by. I was fortunate enough to experience two humpback whales swimming alongside our cruise ship during our passage through the Lemaire Channel. The captain turned of the propellers so as to calm the waters and quiet the surroundings, making the whales more comfortable around the ship. The picture was captured from the deck of our room on board the Le Boreal. Even though the Humpback whales are no blue whales, they are still very impressive in size and stature. During the course of our cruise I was lucky enough to even observe three Killer whales hunt a baby Mink Whale (of which you will see plenty) . White landscapes and stunning sunsets with no other ships or houses in the pictures make the perfect backdrop for whale sightings.
